Until next Sunday it will be in the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid (Spain) an exhibition dedicated to the Ukrainian artist Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979). She was a prominent figure in the emerging Parisian avant-garde.

This is the first monographic exhibition of the artist in Spain. The focus of this exhibition is on the years, during the First World War, when she was living in Madrid (they arrived at the city exactly 100 years ago). And the importance of this period on her future works in the applied arts. Another purpose of the exhibition is to reveal her multi-disciplinary artistic practice.
Sonia Delaunay and her husband experimented with colours and abstraction. The experiments were based on the contrasts of colour and the dissolving of forms through light what led it towards the abstraction.

In the exhibition we can find designs for clothes and textiles, her collaborations with set designers and poets. Paintings (hers and of her husband), dresses and other clothing, photos of her life, silk samples with her designs.

It is a beautiful exhibition and worth a visit. If you’re in Madrid in the next few days don’t let pass this opportunity. I recommend to buy the tickets in advance because the exhibition halls have limited capacity.
