What was L’Académie Julian?

L’Académie Julian was a private art school for painting and sculpture founded by Rodolphe Julian, who was a painter and a teacher, in 1867 in Paris, it was active from 1868 through 1968. L’Académie remained famous not only for the number and quality of the artists who attended in the early 20^th century, which was a period considered of great effervescence in the arts, but also for being one of the few art schools that accepted women among its students.
