What was L’Académie Julian?

L’Académie Julian was a private art school for painting and sculpture founded by Rodolphe Julian, who was a painter and a teacher, in 1867 in Paris, it was active from 1868 through 1968. L’Académie remained famous not only for the number and quality of the artists who attended in the early 20th century, which was a period considered of great effervescence in the arts, but also for being one of the few art schools that accepted women among its students.
