I don’t know about you guys, but I love autumn. The colours, the weather, the food, I love everything about this season. And as this is the first week of autumn where I live, I want to share with you some of my favourite paintings created by women artists who were inspired by this magical season.
I think it is a very inspiring season too, almost magical with all the changes and preparations for the winter that is to come. I know I am not the only one, many artists have found inspiration in the magic of the autumn too: some in the landscapes with fallen leaves, others in the beautiful and warm colours, and they all have created wonderful works of art.
Italian painter Rosalba Carriera painted a personification of the season, she imagined Autumn as a young lady, almost a nymph or a Greek goddess.

Other artists were more inspired by the animals in the nature, as it’s the case of Rosa Bonheur.

And of course there are lovely landscapes, as those of Zinaida Serebriakova:
Autumn by Serebriakova, 1910 Autumn landscape by Serebriakova, 1904 Autumn landscape by Serebriakova, 1909 Autumn landscape by Serebriakova, 1914 Green autumn by Serebriakova, 1908 Versailles park in autumn by Serebriakova, 1926
Others were more inspired by the colours of the sky.
Abstract expressionist autumn sky by Audrey Flack, 1953
Or of the leaves and trees as Georgia O’Keeffe.
Autumn trees. Chestnut tree, 1924 Autumn trees. Maple tree, 1924 Autumn leaves, 1924
I hope you like it!
I love your artful autumnal curation! Tis the season when I always think of Emily Carr’s Fall landscapes, like this one from the Vancouver Art Gallery: http://www.museevirtuel.ca/sgc-cms/expositions-exhibitions/emily_carr/en/popups/pop_large_en.php?worksID=1610
