The Last Supper by Plautilla Nelli

The Last Supper is the final meal that Jesus shared with his apostles in Jerusalem before the crucifixion. This moment is commemorated by Christians especially on Maundy Thursday and it provides the scriptural basis for the Eucharist (‘Holy Communion’). It was a very important subject during the Renaissance, especially in Italy.

  1. Fascinating. I wrote a book-length manuscript about the artists featured in Vasari’s Lives. Perhaps I should include her if I ever go back to editing it!

    1. I am not sure, but according to analysis of other depictions of the last supper, could be Saint James the great or Saint Thomas. Sorry for not being able to give you a better answer.
